Many people after spending staggering amount of time and money on learning ways to reach their goals often fail to reach them. The promise of real and long-lasting change falls short of the expectation leaving people in despair. Sadly, it is the beginning of a vicious cycle that keeps them in searching for new methods.
Why Most Change Processes Fail?
Most methods for creating change rely on the conscious mind processes, namely, will-power and insight to make change, that don’t being the results they are seeking. It is our subconscious beliefs that established the limit on what we can or cant achieve. Dr. Bruce Lipton says, the major problem is that people are aware of their conscious beliefs and behaviors, but not of subconscious beliefs and behaviors. Most people don’t even acknowledge that their subconscious mind is at play. Your subconscious beliefs are working either for you or against you, but the truth is that you are not controlling your life, because your subconscious mind supersedes all conscious control. Habits, for example, are within the domain of the subconscious mind. Normally, we are only using 5% of our mind to attempt to change a habit or other behavior. The other 95% (the subconscious mind) is busy running outdated programs (subconscious beliefs) that sabotage our success. That is why consciously promoting a change of habit is difficult and most of the time, impossible. When the conscious mind wanders and drifts, the old habits and patterns grab control again.
That is one of the main reason why diets and affirmations don’t create long-term changes in most people, people who win the lottery are broke within 5 years? It’s because changes in our external circumstances which are not accompanied by changes in our underlying internal beliefs are at best temporary. When we seek to change our lives by temporarily changing our thoughts, actions or results, we are doomed to fail. This happens because creating our life begins with what we believe about ourselves. Our beliefs about ourselves and others drive our thoughts which impact our actions and create the results we see in our lives daily. Attempting to short-circuit this cycle by changing thoughts (affirmations) or actions (diets) or results (winning the lottery), without a corresponding change in our beliefs only temporarily changes our lives. Typically, once we have the desired results in our life, we stop the diets or affirmations or spend recklessly. However, since we haven’t changed our underlying beliefs, over time we find ourselves in the same situation we were trying to avoid or change.
